Alfred J. Harting, 85, of Seymour, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at Covered Bridge Nursing Facility.
Born April 14, 1929, in Elwood, he was the son of Alfred J. and Mary Hancock Harting.
On Aug. 12, 1951, in Toronto, he married Lila Hossie Harting, whom survives.
Mr. Harting was very devoted to his family. He was of the Methodist faith and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was an educator in the classroom for 15 years and a principal in Perry Township Elementary Schools, Indianapolis, for 30 years.
Besides his wife, survivors include a daughter, Pamela (Brian) Snook-Tidd; three grandchildren, Victoria Snook, Katherine Snook and Alexander Tidd; brothers, Gerald Harting and Jerry Harting; and a sister, Louise Miller.
Mr. Harting was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Archie Harting, Frank Harting and Raymond Harting; and a sister, Bonnie Harting.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Voss Chapel with the Rev. Steve Barrett officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until time of service.
