A 87-year-old woman struck by a vehicle in North Vernon earlier in the week died

Saturday at a Louisville hospital.

Hulda Mae Reichenbach, 87, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:50 p.m. Saturday at the University of Louisville trauma center.

Reichenbach was hit Wednesday night by a Chevrolet Malibu driven by Sheri L. Schroeder of North Vernon as she tried to cross State Street at O&M Avenue. Schroeder was not impaired or speeding at the time, according to a news release from the North Vernon Police Department.

Schroeder, who was not cited, told police she was driving south on State Street and did not see Reichenbach, who was dressed in dark clothing. Schroeder told police that, by the time she saw Reichenbach, it was too late to stop and she hit her.

Reichenbach was taken to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital by personnel with Jennings County Emergency Medical Services-Rescue 20 after the incident reported at 6:28 p.m. She was later flown to Louisville.

Reichenbach, a 1945 graduate of Hayden High School, is survived by her husband, William.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Park Theatre Civic Center and funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the center in North Vernon. The Reichenbachs led efforts to renovate the 322-seat theater in 2003, which they purchased in the 1990s.

Arrangements are incomplete at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home & Cremation Service in North Vernon.
