Group collects Christmas presents for veterans

David Benton chapter of Sons of the American Revolution has begun its annual campaign to collect Christmas gifts for veterans at VA Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Due to security issues, gifts should not be wrapped or packaged. Drop-off locations include Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, 311 S. Jackson Park Drive, Seymour, and American Legion Post 89, 402 W. Second St., Seymour. Washington County residents can drop off gifts at the John Hay Center in Salem. All items will be taken to the Veterans Affairs Office at 1222 N. Bloomington Road, Brownstown.

Deadline is Dec. 19.

Suggested gift items include sweatshirts and sweatpants, socks, house shoes, men’s and women’s underclothing, bathrobes, non-skid slipper socks, toothpaste, toothbrushes, denture cleaner, dental floss, nail clippers, deodorant, shaving cream, lip balm, shampoo, hand lotion, free-standing mirrors, stationery, postage stamps, books, candy, nuts, peanut butter, crackers, applesauce, diet drinks and sugar-free snacks.
