Construction signs are being placed this week along State Road 3 in advance of Indiana Department of Transportation’s $3,944,700 project to widen North State Street between Poplar and Henry streets in North Vernon.

The superstructure of the bridge over the CSX railroad tracks also will be replaced and repairs to existing bridge piers will be made. That bridge is 0.3 miles north of U.S. 50.

Utility companies will be working in the area during winter months to relocate their services.

Dave O’Mara, the state’s contractor, is scheduled to begin widening this 0.56-mile section of State Road 3 at North Vernon in April. The widening will accommodate a center turn lane.

The Seymour District project also includes water lines, storm sewers, sidewalks with ADA-compliant curb ramps, curbs, gutters and replacement of the tennis courts at North Vernon City Park.
