Velda Jean Fleenor, 84, Medora, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at I.U. South in Bloomington.

Velda was a member of Brownstown Christian Church. She formerly was employed at Arvin Industries and Weyerhauser for 21 years. She retired from Central Pharmaceuticals in 1994. She also owned and operated Vel and Ty’s in Seymour.

Born March 29, 1929, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of Harlen and Ella Kuhns Purkey, both of whom preceded her in death. On Nov. 25, 1965, in Taswell, Tenn., she married Tyler Fleenor, who preceded her in death on June 7, 1984.

Survivors include one son, Harry (Gaylynne) Crouch Jr., Steven City, Va.; three daughters, Ragene (Dennis) Heath, Holly Hill, Fla., Brenda (James) Ault, Medora, and Mona (Jeff) Wray, Brownstown; nine grandchildren, Michelle Stout, Angela Bean, Joshua Heath, Kandy Wischmeier, Rane Alexander Williams, Natalie Ault, Lindsay Crouch, Sadie Crouch and Gregory Crouch; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Kenneth Purkey and Melvin Purkey; and one sister, Mildred Kindred.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Spurgeon Funeral Home Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Paul Neuman officiating. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to Schneck Hospice.
