A free Cover Crop Field Day is being held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Seymour High School.
During the event, participants can learn how to use drones to plant cover crops while main crops are still growing.
In September, the school used a drone to plant oats, radish and crimson clover into standing soybeans. A video from that seeding will be shown. Participants can also may walk the fields to see how the cover crops are growing and hear from experts with Premier Ag and WinField United.
The public is invited to see how it’s working for the high school and what might work for theirr farm. Funding opportunities will be discussed, including the Lake Monroe Watershed Conservation Cost-Share program. This program covers up to 75% of the cost of select conservation practices in the Lake Monroe watershed, which spans portions of Jackson Monroe and Brown counties.
Participants are welcome to stay and join the Seymour chapter of Future Farmers of America for dinner that follows the field day. Register by Nov. 16.
