A medical emergency led to the arrest of an owner from the Tienda Guatamex Market, 814 E. Tipton St., Seymour, after investigators found he was selling multiple prescription and controlled medications through the store.

Alfredo M. Lopez, 51, of Cookeville, Tennessee, was arrested Thursday for charges of violation of legend drug, a Level 6 felony, and possession of a controlled substance, a Level 3 felony, according to a news release from Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, county Officers Isaiah Thomas, Jordan Hawn and Scott Ferguson responded to a medical emergency where a female self-administered an injectable, prescription only medication.

While determining how the female obtained the medication, she told investigators she had purchased it from the Tienda Guatamex Market, Meyer reported.

After a search warrant was obtained for the store, Jackson County deputies executed the search at 9:30 p.m. with the assistance of officers from the Seymour Police Department. During the search, multiple prescription only and controlled medications were sold inside the store, police reported.

Lopez was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 11:54 p.m. Thursday and being held without bond pending his initial hearing in Jackson Circuit Court.

The investigation is still ongoing.

“Outstanding police work was done by my deputies,” Meyer said.
