Indiana State Police Investigating fatal two-vehicle crash on U.S. 150 in Fredericksburg

Washington County (Oct. 19, 2024) —  An Indianapolis woman was killed and another man severely injured when the motorcycle they were riding was struck by a passenger car late Saturday afternoon, state police report.

Shortly after 7 p.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from the Indiana State Police with a fatal crash that occurred on U.S. 150 between Becks Mill Road and High Street in Fredericksburg, Indiana.

Trooper Ben Davis with the Sellersburg Post’s crash reconstruction team and Sgt. Dustin Zehnder responded.

As a result of the initial investigation, officers believe a red and black 2025 Honda tricycle style motorcycle, commonly known as a “trike”, was eastbound on U.S. 150 approaching Becks Mill Road, according to a news release from Sgt. Carey Huls. He is the public information officer with the Sellersburg post.

As the motorbike continued eastbound, a white 2002 Toyota Corolla began pulling out on to U.S. 150 from a private drive located on the south side of U.S. 150.  As the Corolla pulled out into the highway, the two vehicles collided throwing both the driver and the passenger off the bike and onto the roadway.

Tragically, the passenger, 67-year-old Theresa Marie Spencer of Indianapolis, Indiana was killed in the impact, Huls said. The driver, who is from Louisville, Kentucky, suffered severe but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital.  The driver of the passenger car received minor injuries and was transported to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Salem.

The investigation is ongoing. Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be factors in this crash, Huls said.

The roadway remained closed during the investigation.  Officers from the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and the Washington County Coroner’s Office assisted in the investigation.

The family of the deceased has been notified.
