The weather was just right Saturday morning as the Brownstown Pickleball Association hosted their first inaugural tournament on the newly constructed Pickleball courts.

The tournament was played in a scramble round robin format where each player teamed with every other player in their division.

First place winner in the women’s intermediate was Tracy Westfall, followed by Dianne Altemeyer and Sue Wildemann in third place. For women’s recreational, first place winner went to Dee Ernest, second place to Miss Thompson and Donna Griffith in third.

First place winner in the men’s A pool went to Matthew Beaverson, second place to David Stout and Steven Acton in third. For the men’s B pool, first place went to Max Goecker, Dustin Kick in second place and Troy Thompson in third.

Westfall said she has participated in several tournaments before, but she was excited to covet the first-place spot for the first time at the Brownstown courts.

“I played with a great group of women and the competition was very even,” she said. “Nancy Sterling did a great job organizing the event and I’m looking forward to bigger tournaments.”

Awards were sponsored by Marion-Kay Spices, Diadem Sports, Chris Snodgrass with Lifelink AED Specialists and the Brownstown Pickleball Association.

A drawing was held for additional prizes sponsored by The People’s Bank and Parker Dental.

Prize winners were Dustin Kick, Missy Thompson and Patti Terrell.

Funds raised were used for the benefit of Medora Lion’s Club charities and Brownstown Pickleball Association for future upkeep and improvements.

“We were fortunate to have had perfect weather,” said Sterling, president of the Brownstown Pickleball Association. “I am very grateful to our sponsors and everyone who participated. It really meant a lot to see all the fans who came out to support the PBA in our first tournament.”
