Lloyd “Ray” Elkins, 79, of Paris Crossing, IN passed away on October 3, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born on December 24, 1944, in Seymour to Leonard and Hazel (Blakenship) Elkins. Ray was a retiree from the United States Navy having served with the MCB-40 “Seabees” in two tours of duty in the Vietnam War, having served in the Tet Offensive and assisted in building vital runways in Guam. After his distinguished military service, Ray returned home and continued working at Cummins until his retirement. On April 6, 1989, Ray married his wife, Helen Maschino, she survives. Ray was also a member of the Crothersville Church of the Nazarene, Seymour American Legion Post No. 89, Seymour VFW Post No. 1925 and Eagles Aerie #655. In his free time, Ray loved to watch western movies, listen to Bluegrass music, bale hay and tend to his garden.

Ray is survived by his wife, Helen Elkins; children: Jeremy (Mary Beth) Elkins, Matt (Kelly) Elkins and Amber (Chad) Johnson; stepchildren: Marshal (Erin) Royalty, Mitchell (Pam) Royalty, LaDonna (David) Simpson and Donita (Phil) Layman; brothers: Larry Elkins and Roy Elkins; sister, Eloise (Lloyd) Brumett; twenty-five grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: June Elkins and Elaine Sawyer; grandson Calab Elkins and great granddaughter, Madalyn Lucas; sister-in-law, Marilyn Elkins.

Funeral services for Ray will be held at 11:00 AM on October 9, 2024, at the Voss &Sons Funeral and Cremation Service, 316 North Chestnut St. Following the funeral service, burial with military honors will take place at the Mt. Zion Church Cemetery (Commiskey, IN). Ray’s family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
