Seymour, Brownstown, Trinity Lutheran

The annual Ray Gerkin Invitational took place at Muscatatuck Park in North Vernon on Saturday, as Seymour, Brownstown and Trinity all competed in the race. Seymour’s Gracie Adams placed second in the girls’ race with a time of 20:59.70 for the best performance for the Lady Owls.

Emma Doriot (4th), AnnMarie Shuler (7th), and Aidda Schepman (10th) crowded the top of the leaderboard, winning the invitational with a team score of 46. Edging out Charlestown who finished in second place with 47 team points.

The Lady Braves finished in sixth place, led by Lana Wisler’s 19th place. Trinity Cody followed in 25th, while Chelsie Combs ended in 39th. Claire Schepman was right behind in 40th and Jessica Pitts finished 60th for Brownstown.

Trinity senior Cheyenne Campbell finished in 26th for the Cougars, while Emma Mellencamp ended the race in 56th.

Jennings County won the boys’ meet with a score of 63. Seymour finished in third place with a score of 80, while Brownstown Central finished in fourth with 93.

The Owls were led by the Jablonski brothers in Caleb (8th place) and Micah (11th place) on Saturday. Ty Tormoehlen ended his race in 18th place. Wes Proffer followed in 20th, while Jacob Caudill and JJ Myers finished in 23rd and 24th. Kylan Ellerbe ended his race in 28th for Seymour.

Shane and Chance Ratliff battled at the top of the leaderboard, as Shane finished in 2nd and Chance in 3rd for the Braves. Eli Crockett ended the race in 17th place, while Damien Owens finished in 36th. Logan Chavarria ended in 36th and Kaden Lingenfelter finished in 90th for Brownstown Central.

Trinity Lutheran’s Stephen Traeger finished in 80th, while Sam Dyer ended the race in 85th for the Cougars.

Crothersville

The Crothersville boys’ cross-country team put together a third-place finish over the weekend at the South Dearborn Invitational in Moores Hill on Saturday.

Koby Davis finished in 4th place with a time of 17:39.04, followed by Beau Napier who finished in 9th and Dirk Crater who ended the race in 12th for the Tigers.

Kolton Blevins crossed the finish line in 25th, while Brayden Heath and Kaleb Moeller finished in 36th and 37th for the team. Braxton Riley finished 41st and Josh Reynolds finished 43rd. Jude Howard (66th), Gage Howard (76th), and Evan Lanning (80th) rounded out the placings for Crothersville.

Boys’ Tennis

Brownstown Central, Trinity Lutheran

Brownstown Central and Trinity Lutheran both competed in the Scottsburg Invitational on Saturday, as Brownstown finished in 3rd and Trinity ended in 5th.

Both teams played in the final match of the No. 1 doubles tournament, as Pierson Wheeler and Lane Steward of Brownstown defeated the duo of Nathan Finke and Jonathan Neawedde from Trinity.

Brownstown’s second doubles team got 2nd in the tournament. Trinity Lutheran’s Jack Stuckwisch got fourth place in the No. 1 singles tournament.

The Braves host Charlestown tonight at 5 p.m., while Trinity travels to Austin for a match at the same time.

Volleyball

Brownstown Central

The Lady Braves competed in the New Albany Tournament on Saturday, winning three of four matchups during the invitational. Class 2A #1 Brownstown defeated the third best team in 2A in Tecumseh, winning 25-21, and 25-20 over the opponent.

Floyd Central defeated Brownstown in three sets after dropping the first set. It’s just the second loss of the season for Brownstown, losing to the #4 team in Class 4A.

The team then defeated the hosting New Albany Bulldogs in straight sets, 25-22, and 25-22. Brownstown then defeated Silver Creek for the third time this season, winning 25-19, and 25-20 over the Dragons.

The Lady Braves host Charlestown for a Mid-Southern Conference battle tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Seymour

The Owls split their matches in the Franklin Tournament on Saturday, going 2-2 throughout the invitational. Seymour defeated Lawrence Central, 25-15, and 25-10, also defeating Indianapolis Scecina, 27-25, 23-25, and 15-11.

Seymour fell to Bishop Chatard and Franklin, currently sitting at 15-9 on the season. The Owls will host Class 3A top ten ranked Silver Creek tomorrow at 7 p.m.

The Lady Hornets had four matches over the weekend. Hosting Lighthouse Christian Academy on Friday, before competing in the Henryville Tournament on Saturday.

Medora fell to Lighthouse in three sets, losing 25-19, 25-12, and 25-14.

The team faced the Christian Academy of Indiana on Saturday, dropping the match to the Warriors, 25-7, and 25-8. Medora then fell to North Knox, losing 25-7, and 25-10.

The Hornets finally faced Henryville and dropped that match in straight sets as well. Medora hosts Clarksville tonight at 6 p.m.

Seymour

The Owls secured a win over Lawrenceburg on Saturday, defeating the Tigers 4-1 to improve to 8-5 on the season.

Marckenson Paul, Kayden Cox, Gaspar Mateo, and Myles Chandler scored for Seymour in the victory. Bartolome Sebastian, Chandler, Thai Daraswad, and Nico Matom all had assists.

The JV team won 4-0 over Lawrenceburg to improve to 4-5-3 on the season.

Seymour hosts their final home match on Thursday against Jennings County with varsity beginning at 5:30 and JV to follow.
