Due to threats being received, there is a heavy police presence at Crothersville Community Schools at this time.

An individual believed to be responsible for making the threats is currently in custody, according to a news release issued by Sgt. Stephen Wheeles shortly after 11 a.m. today.

Wheeles, the public information officer for the Indiana State Police Post at Versailles, said school buildings have been evacuated as a precaution while the buildings are cleared by law enforcement. Students are being sent home for the remainder of the day.

Wheeles said parents have the option of picking up their children or they may be sent home by bus. They were being advised to call the school at 812-793-2601 for information.

He said media questions related to this incident may be directed to him, and more information will be released later this afternoon.

The Crothersville Police Department is leading the investigation with assistance from Indiana State Police Investigators. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Excise Police also assisted with the evacuation of the buildings.
