Jayda Clodfelter and Khloe Lingenfelter placed third and fourth individually to help the Brownstown Central girl’s golf team place second in the Mid-Southern Conference tournament Saturday at Shadowood Golf Course.

Clodfelter shot 40-49-89 and Lingenfelter carded a 46-46-92.

They earned all-MSC honors, along with Abby Schroer who shot 46-53-98 to tie for sixth.

Rounding out the Brownstown scores were Mairi Shaw with 122 and Claire Brelage with 126. This was the second 18-hole tournament for both girls, and this was Shaw’s best tournament score.

This was the second straight year for Schroer and Lingenfelter to make all-MSC first team, while Clodfelter was honorable mention last year.

Corydon easily won its fourth straight MSC title with a score of 355. The Braves shot 401 and Scottsburg was third with 438. Corydon’s Emma Rowland was the tournament medalist with a 79.

Braves Coach Brandon Allman said his team shot 427 in the Seymour Invitational in early August, so he was pleased with the improvement.

“Taking 26 strokes off their score from the first week of the season, I’m definitely proud of them. Jayda shot her career-best today. I’m super proud of her. She had a lot of things going well. I saw Jayda make several putts. When you make putts that makes up for a lot of stuff.”

Clodfelter said she improved her score by nine strokes from the Seymour Tournament.

“I improved my short game. I’ve been working on it this year, so I’ve improved on that a lot, and my drives were good. All around, I had good shots, but some of my chip shots could have been better so they could have put me in a better position.”

She said the 40 on the front nine is her lowest 9-hole score, and she enjoys playing Shadowood.

Clodfelter said she has enjoyed the season.

“I like how our team has bonded so well, and we’re really clicked. We know when to get stuff done, and we have a good time doing it, so it’s’ really enjoyable with my teammates and Brandon.”

Allman said, “Abby and Khloe were a little frustrated because it wasn’t their best, but they were still able to battle through. Abby was frustrated because she had a couple bad breaks. Things didn’t quite go her way and that cost her a few shots.

“It was a beautiful day. It was kind of warm and I know the girls got tired. It is flat here.” The Braves will host Scottsburg today, then play a match against Bedford North Lawrence and Springs Valley at Otis Park on Thursday, then return there Saturday for the sectional.

“They get psyched out at Otis Park. It is hilly. It’s a harder walk. We’re going over there with a mindset of finishing second. Bedford is the team to beat. Seymour is right there with us. We just want to go over there and play well.”
