MEDORA — The battle of the ‘Hornets’ took place on Monday evening in Medora as Henryville came to town for a volleyball match.

Henryville took advantage early and secured the first two sets, before Medora won the third set. Henryville grabbed their third win of the season after taking the fourth set.

Henryville defeated Medora 25-11, 25-11, 23-25, and 27-25.

Head Coach Hanna Hinderlider spoke about the outcome with Henryville on Monday.

“We just needed to push a bit harder in the 4th set to secure that win and make it to the 5th,” Hinderlider said. “In the first two sets, Henryville really found the holes on the floor and capitalized on them. However, we made some adjustments and started covering better in the 3rd and 4th sets.”

The coach believes that improving communication will help the team out eventually.

“I believe we can work better together as a team by improving our communication on the floor,” Hinderlider said. “It’s also important that we focus on building confidence among each other and not dwelling on mistakes when they happen.”

“Supporting each other will help us continue to improve as the season progresses,” she added.

The team combined for 13 aces, led by Lilian Hatchett (5), Josie Bowers (2) and Isabella Spence (2). Bowers recorded 22 assists, while Brelee Underwood had 12 kills and 20 digs, leading the team in both categories.

Hatchett recorded 8 kills, while Madison Reece had 4.

After eight games into the season for Medora, Coach Hinderlider was asked about her favorite thing about coaching the team this season.

“I love helping the girls improve both individually and as a team,” Hinderlider said. “It’s been wonderful to see how they aren’t hesitant to jump in and play in new spots or try different positions and get out of their comfort zones.”

The team has learned a lot during this season according to the coach.

“This season, we learned a whole new rotation, and it’s been exciting to see a couple of the girls stepping up to block now,” she said.

Medora traveled to Southwestern (Hanover) on Tuesday for a match with the Rebels, traveling again for their next game, which is tomorrow at Orleans at 6 p.m.
