Game wardens victims of practical jokes

Two game wardens Friday afternoon were the victims of practical jokers in Medora, when they poured the contents of a storage battery over the front seat of a Ford touring car owned by one of the wardens. When the wardens had seated themselves in the machine they suddenly became aware of its dampness and upon investigating found that the solution in a battery had been poured over the seat. The trousers of both wardens were ruined by the acid.

Friend stays on track

When Sally Waldkoetter decided to retire in 1992, she didn’t have to look real hard for a place to settle down.

“We were camping at Starve Hollow Lake and we saw this lakefront house for sale,” Waldkoetter said.

That outing was back in 1992. It brought Waldkoetter and her friend, Judy Hanners from Cincinnati, where Waldkoetter was a professor at the University of Cincinnati, back to the county where both were born.

At the time, Hanners had just found out she had cancer, and Waldkoetter just decided it was time to retire. Hanners died in Oct. of 1994.

Waldkoetter, however, opened The Whistle Stop on Main Street in Vallonia in the late spring of last year in memory of her friend.

“It was something we had planned to do,” the 62-year-old Seymour native said.
