Egg production up 5% in state from a year ago

All layers in Indiana totaled 36.7 million during July, up 5% percent from a year ago, according to Nathanial Warenski, state statistician with the Indiana field office of the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Great Lakes Region.

Egg production totaled 926 million eggs, up 6% from last year. The rate of lay during July was 2,523 eggs per 100 layers.

United States egg production totaled 9.06 billion during July 2024, down 2% from last year. Production included 7.76 billion table eggs, and 1.30 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.20 billion were broiler-type and 99.0 million were egg-type. The average number of layers during July 2024 totaled 370 million, down 3% from last year.

July egg production per 100 layers was 2,451 eggs, up slightly from July 2023.

Total layers in the United States on August 1, 2024 totaled 369 million, down 3% from last year. The 369 million layers consisted of 304 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 61.5 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.76 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs.

Rate of lay per day on Aug. 1 averaged 79.0 eggs per 100 layers, up slightly from August 1, 2023.
