Bicyclists raising money for charity stop in Seymour

Fuller Center Bicycle Adventure took off on a 10-week cross-country bicycle ride to raise money and awareness for The Fuller Center for Housing’s efforts to help the homeless.

During this adventure, the bicyclists will be covering 4,000 miles through 12 states, going from Seattle to Washington, D.C., with their final stop on Aug. 3.

Throughout these weeks, seven of those days were spent off bikes for working on building projects with local Fuller Center covenant partners.

Some of the sights the members get to see include Yellowstone, Rocky Mountain National Park and Flaming Gorge. On July 16, these bicyclists had the chance to see some of Seymour, having rode in from Indianapolis, which is 65-mile ride.

Around 2 p.m. that day, the bicyclists began trickling into the city, arriving at New Life Assembly of God, 800 Brookhaven Drive.

Maggie Adkins, 18, from Houston, Texas arrived at the church with a big smile on her face, shouting out to her fellow bicyclists that have already reached their destination.

While she has biked a lot in her youth, Adkins has never done something quite like this.

“This is something I’ve been wanting to do for awhile,” she said.

After spending the night in Seymour, the bicyclists returned to the streets the following day, with a 66-mile ride to Louisville, Kentucky, ahead of them.

Ride leader Niel Mullikin of Georgia, who has been involved since 2021 with the organization, said he was called by God to get involved with The Fuller Center.

“It was an answer to a lot of prayers,” Mullikin said.

Since the first ride in 2008, more than 1,800 Fuller Center Bicycle Adventure cyclists have ridden more than 1.7 million cumulative miles. In the process, they have raised more than $4.6 million for The Fuller Center for Housing’s mission of helping families have simple, decent places to live through repair work and new home builds.

The Fuller Center for Housing, founded in 2005 by Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree Millard Fuller, has earned the highest-level 4-star rating from Charity Navigator with a perfect 100% score.
