Vallonia man killed in motorcycle crash

A 66-year-old Jackson County man died Wednesday afternoon as the result of a motorcycle crash southeast of Brownstown, police report.

Kim C. Kaufman of Vallonia was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck by an official with the Jackson County Coroner’s Office, according to a news release issued by Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer. The crash, reported at 12:45 p.m., occurred near County Road 300E and County Road 300S, just east of State Road 39.

The initial investigation indicates Kaufman was traveling westbound on County Road 300S  on a silver 2002 Harley Davidson when he passed a passenger car that also was westbound and then attempted to past a dump truck, police reported.

While attempting to the pass the dump truck, Kaufman lost control of the motorcycle, which left the southside of the road. He was ejected from the motorcycle when it hit a mailbox.

First responders and personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services attempted to resuscitate Kaufman.

An autopsy and toxicology testing are scheduled for Friday.

Lt. Adam Nicholson investigated the wreck and was assisted by Meyer, and county Officer Aaron Wilkins. Officers with Brownstown Police Department and personnel with Brownstown Fire Department also assisted.
