Medora school board, town council meet

MEDORA — The Medora Community School Corporation’s board of trustees and town council both met Monday for regularly scheduled monthly meetings.

The school board approved three facility use requests by HOPE Medora Goes Pink, a non-profit organization founded by Debra Wayman in 2009. Every year on the second Saturday in October, the non-profit holds a cancer awareness event in town.

HOPE Medora Goes Pink’s facility use requests included the use of the school’s kitchen on Aug. 10 and two requests for the use of the school gymnasium for volleyball games on Sept. 29 and Oct. 26.

Trustees also approved a contract renewal for Superintendent Roger Bane from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2027.

Recommendations regarding salaries and hourly rates were also approved by the school board. With the exception of treasurer and accounts payable, there will be a 2% increase for salary-based employees out of the operations fund. Additionally, building administrators will receive an increase of $3,000 to their salary. The head custodian and night custodian (hourly employees) will receive increases of $0.50 to $1 per hour. Bus drivers, also hourly employees, will receive increases of $2.50 per day.

During the town council meeting, a discussion about Commonwealth Engineering — an engineering and consulting service the town is under contract with. The council agreed to pay a $6,800 bill from Commonwealth for a preliminary report on rainwater drainage.

The council also approved a contract renewal for Medora Junior-Senior High School’s school resource officer for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Medora school board of trustees meet at 5 p.m. on the second Monday of every month in the library at Medora Junior-Senior High School, 82 S George St.

The Medora Town Council also meets at 6 p.m. on the second Monday of every month at town hall, 27 N Perry St.
