Ballou takes Josh Burton Memorial at Bloomington

Robert Ballou won the 11th Annual Josh Burton Memorial for sprint cars on May 24 at the Bloomington Speedway. The California native earned $10,000 for his win after passing Tye Mihocko on the final lap for the win. Mihocko was second followed by Kyle Cummins, Kevin Thomas Jr., and Cody Trammell.

Completing the top 10 were Jadon Rogers, Ricky Lewis, Jake Swanson, Brayden Fox and Shane Cottle.

Matt Boknecht of Seymour won the super stock feature over Zach Sasser, Tucker Chastain, Isaiah Sasser and Trey Chastain. Jacoby Hines of Trafalgar won the modified feature over Derek Groomer, Brayden Watson, Tyler Loughmiller and Cole Parker.

Paxson wins at Paragon

Joey Paxson of Connersville won the All-Star TQ Midgets feature on May 25 at the Paragon Speedway. Logan Prickett was second followed by Johnny Goff, Jack Dossey III and Evan Shatto.

The next All-Star TQ Midget race will be Friday at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Several winners at Brownstown

The Slicker Graphics Super Late Models were on hand for a $2500 to win feature event as part of “Saturday Night Racing” on Memorial Day weekend at the Brownstown Speedway.

Devin Gilpin of Columbus picked up his second straight win in Slicker Graphics Super Late Models. Jared Bailey jumped to the early lead in the 25-lap feature and stretched out his lead over the rest of the field. Adam Stricker and Gilpin started catching Bailey as the race continued. Gilpin moved to second with seven laps to go and then took the lead for good with four laps remaining.

A charging Jordan Wever took second ahead of Stricker, Bailey and Dustin Linville. Rounding out the top 10 were Tyler Collins, Zack Burton, Matt Boknecht, Cody Mahoney, and Quentin White.

Branden Carr of Scottsburg became the sixth different winner of the year in the highly competitive Pewter Hall Super Stocks. Blake Hull, Zach Sasser and Tucker Chastain all took turns at leading the feature event. Carr charging from his 12th starting spot using the high side caught race leader Tucker Chastain with four laps to go and went on to record his first win of 2024. Tucker Chastain, Zach Sasser, Isaiah Sasser and Trey Chastain trailed at the checkers.

The Crossroads Truck Equipment Pure Stocks feature was a good one. Hunter Perry of Columbus maintained a good lead over Brent McMillan and Josh Turner for the first half of the race. Multiple cautions over the last half of the event kept the field close. Perry and Turner would run side-by-side for the last three laps with Perry pulling ahead at the checkers for his first Brownstown Pure Stock win. Following Perry and Turner was Brent McMillan, Preston Carr and Ross Smith.

Matt Cranmer of Memphis recorded win number two for the year in Crown Vic feature action. Matt Cranmer led all twenty laps for the win. Trevor Cranmer, Dustin Cross, Todd Cain and Brandon Cranmer followed Matt Cranmer at the finish.

Cordell Moore of Holton got his second win of the year in the Hornet division. Moore took the lead on lap five and stayed there for the win. Scott Smith, Jeremy Shemwell, Michael Brewer and Shannon Walp rounded out the top five in a great race for second to fifth.

The Jennings County Kart Club which holds races at the Jennings County 4-H Fairgrounds in North Vernon opened its 2024 season on May 18.

The division winners were Kyle Froehle (rookie red), Hank Woodruff (clone lite), Macy Staton (junior 2 purple and pro purple) Seth Wilkerson (clone sumo), Leroy Blevins (rwyb), Daniel Burton (flathead), Logan Minter (junior champ), Aden McGlone (junior 1 green), Travis Wilburn (clone super heavy), Evan Shatto (clone medium), Jacob Chadd (junior 3 blue), Joe Barger (pure stock 350), Kevin Swisher (senior champ), Aaron day (sbo), Robby Young (clone heavy), and Luke Hannah (beginner champ).
