Drew Hubbard was named the most valuable player of the Trinity Lutheran girl’s tennis team when the team held its awards program, at the Brooklyn Pizza Company Wednesday night.

“Drew not only had a really great season, but had four great seasons across her career,” head Coach Jayme Lowe said.

“She’s also been a solid leader for the team, leading by example that hard work, grit and a positive attitude that can take you far. She always helped lift up the other girls and helped them work on their game too.”

Hubbard defeated the No. 1 players from Brownstown and Bedford North Lawrence to advance in the individual singles tournament where she lost to Tatum Brown of Jennings County’s at Columbus North.

Hubbard won 18 matches this season.

Presley Meyer was named the most improved player, and Kiley Zabel received the Cougar Award,

The Cougars had a record of 13-6, and Lowe said she believes it is one of the best in school history. They defeated Brownstown Central in the first round of the Bedford North Lawrence Sectional before losing to the Stars in the second round.

“The season was a great one,” Lowe said. “I believe it was one of our most successful. It was an exciting season and we got to see our players try new things, grow on the court, and get out of their comfort zones,” Lowe said.

“On both the singles and doubles we had a lot of success and I think we can look forward to some success more future success.”

Lowe said beating Southwestern Hanover was a good win.

“I would say our win over Southwestern Hanover was one of our most exciting. They are a formidable team and a good benchmark in our season of success. The fact that we had the skills to compete with them was excellent.

“Overall, it was season that surprised us in many ways and hopefully left all of our returning players ready for more hard work and success next year.”

MVP Liza Vaughn was named the most valuable junior varsity player, Enola Vandecar received the JCV cougar Award and Sophia Seo was named the most improved.
