Regional Track and Field

Seymour, Brownstown, Trinity Lutheran

The Bloomington North Regional Track and Field meet took place on Thursday evening. Jackson County had a few state qualifiers from Brownstown and Seymour.

Seymour had two relays advance in the 4×100 and 4×400. Mason Nugent, Kyle Hileman, Jesse Mellencamp, and Devon Jackson were on the 4×100 team. Kylan Ellerbe, Jackson, Ty Tormoehlen and Jaylan Johnson were in the 4×400 group. Johnson was the only individual qualifier, advancing in the 400-meter run.

Brownstown’s Isiaah Engle qualified in the 300-meter hurdles with a school record time of 40.14. The record has been a goal for Engle all season long.

Trinity’s Jake Holland finished in fourth place in the 110-meter hurdles.

Baseball

Trinity Lutheran

After playing through six and a half innings on Wednesday, Trinity Lutheran was finally able to advance to the sectional semifinal on Thursday night, defeating Rising Sun 9-7.

The team constantly applied pressure to the Shiners with their offense, scoring two runs in the first three innings to go up 6-0. Rising Sun had a big four-run fifth inning and scored in the final two innings, but Trinity was able to hold them off.

Trinity compiled 8 hits, led by Drake Goodpaster and Peyton Pollert, who both had two. Chase Bode, Nathan Finke, Jackson Trueblood, and Bode Brooks recorded the others. Trueblood pitched 4.1 innings in a win, allowing no hits, one earned run, walking five and striking out four.

Peyton Pollert earned the save, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing one hit and one run.

The Cougars will face the winner of Henryville-Crothersville, which now begins tomorrow at 11 a.m. Trinity is expected to face the winner at 5 p.m.

Crothersville

The Tigers season came to an end on Saturday against Henryville, losing 13-1 to the Hornets.

The Tigers would be no-hit by the Hornets pitcher Hayden Barbour, who threw five innings, striking out 11.

Lucas Hilton pitched for Crothersville, lasting 1.1 innings, allowing three hits, 9 runs, 1 of them earned, and striking out one.

Logen O’Sullivan finished the game, allowing four hits, four runs, two of them earned, and striking out four batters.

O’Sullivan, Hilton, Nolan Nickell, and Cash Sawyer wrapped up their senur seasons for Crothersville.

Brownstown Central

The Braves baseball team faced off with Austin in opening round of sectionals on Thursday. Brownstown defeated the Eagles 7-4 behind a three-run first inning and a two-run fifth inning. The Braves racked up eight hits, led by Grant Killey who had two of them, Jaxson Johnson, Ethan Garland, Trent Lowery, Lane Pendleton, Grant Cassidy, and Pierson Wheeler recorded the other hits.

Lowery started for Brownstown, lasting four innings, allowing three hits, three runs, walking seven batters and striking out five for the Braves.

Dalton Reedy earned the win, pitching two innings, allowing two hits and no runs, walking three, and striking out four. Pendleton then earned the save, pitching the final inning, allowing one hit, and striking out two batters.

The Braves will face Southwestern (Hanover) on Memorial Day at 12 p.m. The games take place at South Ripley High School. If Brownstown advances, they’ll play in the sectional championship on Monday evening.

The following athletes were our spring weight lifting winners. The winners were determined by how much they improved on their power club (3 lifts combined- Squat, Clean & Bench).

Freshman: Isaac Hampton +65 lbs

Seymour graduate earns NAIA All-American Status

Kleber placed eighth in the 10,000-meter finals which earned the Lancers’ first NAIA All-American honor of the meet. It’s also the men’s first NAIA Outdoor All-American award since 2022. Kleber’s time of 30:37.87 was less than a second off the school record.
