Memorial Day services honor the fallen

Local veteran’s organizations are planning Memorial Day services in Brownstown and Seymour to remember those who have fallen in defense of their country.

The Brownstown service, organized by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, Seymour, is set for 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Jackson County Courthouse, 220 E. Walnut St. It will feature a guest speaker, a 21-gun salute from an honor guard comprised of members of both VFW Post 1925 and American Legion Post 89 in Seymour and taps.

Seymour ‘s Memorial Day service, organized by American Legion Post 89, will begin at 11 a.m. Monday along Soldiers Row at Riverside Cemetery, 1603 Shields Ave.

It also will feature a guest speaker, the laying of wreaths on graves, the 21-gun salute by the honor guards and taps.
