Seymour school board meets Tuesday night

The Seymour Community School Corp. board of education will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday to reorganize for the year at the Seymour Central Service Center, 1420 Corporate Way.

The meeting will begin with public comment led by Superintendent Brandon Harpe, followed by the election of board officers, committee appointments, school corporation appointments, a board member compensation discussion and a review of the 2024 school board meeting dates and times.

Next, the board of finance will have a quick meeting, followed by the election of officers, the 2023 investment report by Steve Nauman and Matt Thompson and the fiscal and qualitative indicators report.

The regular board meeting will then be called to order. This will include the consent agenda, communications and recognitions, donations and grants and updates on construction projects.

D.J. Henkle and Jason Wynn will be asking permission to use funds from the health department donation for the purchase of the HALO system, a multi-functional health, safety and vape detection device. Katie Leitzman will ask the board for permission to accept $64,765.01 from the Early Literacy Achievement Grant and$176,634.28 for the 2023 through 2025 Title IIA grant.

First read items include new course offerings at Seymour High School, which will be presented by Steve Bush, and discussion of the social and emotional learning curriculum at Seymour Middle School, led by Whitney Reinhart.

The meeting is open to the public and press.

At 6 p.m., the board will meet in executive session to discuss items related to personnel. It’s closed to the public and press.
