Brownstown Central

The Braves competed in the second round of the Bobcat of Daviess County Classic on Friday, meeting the host Cougars in a battle.

Brownstown completely shut down the offense for North Daviess, allowing a total of 20 points throughout the game. The Braves used a huge first half to take a 29-9 lead at halftime and went on to win 45-20 to advance to the final game of the tournament with Evansville Christian.

Parker Hehman led Brownstown in scoring with 10 points, Colby Hall added seven and Chace Coomer, Pierson Wheeler, Micah Sheffer and Lane Pendleton all scored six points.

The Braves would then be heartbroken on a buzzer-beater from Josiah Dunham to lose the final game of the tournament to the Eagles 58-57.

Dunham moved to his left at the top of the key, throwing in a prayer of a shot, and it fell for the win. Evansville improved to 9-1 on the season, while Brownstown fell to 8-2.

The Eagles are ranked No. 1 in Class A, and it was a showdown Saturday evening. Jack Benter did not play on Friday or Saturday for the Braves.

Hehman led the way in scoring against the Eagles with 22 points, Sheffer added 15 and Hall scored 12 in the close loss.

The team will gear up for another tournament this weekend, traveling to New Castle to compete in the Hall of Fame Classic. The game will be against Brownsburg at 12:45 p.m. Saturday at New Castle Fieldhouse.
