Local tattoo artist giving back this holiday season

People get tattoos for a variety for reasons, but for this holiday season, some are getting inked for a cause.

Local tattoo artist Stacy Conrad, owner of Youniquely You Tattoo in Seymour, wanted to give back to the community using her creative talents by sponsoring an angel tree in her shop and starting a Toys for Tats drive.

Those wanting to get involved can bring in a $20 toy with a receipt and receive a $50 tattoo. This toy drive will be going on every Wednesday in December from noon to 6 p.m. and will be first-come, first-served.

Conrad and her husband, Josh, will be dressing up as Mr. and Mrs. Claus to deliver toys to the children at Anchor House and Turning Point.

“We originally decided to do something for Anchor House, but my sister and I spent a lot of time in Turning Point and thought that it would be a good contribution, as well,” she said. “We grew up in Turning Point on and off throughout our lives, and it was our safe place, so it hits home.”

Conrad said she is looking forward to providing toys and holiday-themed treats and snacks to the kids in need this year.

Any toys left over will go to The Serenity Closet in Brownstown.

Youniquely You Tattoo also is sponsoring 10 kids on their angel tree, and each child is assigned a $100 tattoo design. The design will be on the front, and the back will have the age and gender of the child. Conrad said people have already donated to the cause.

“I had an anonymous donor that donated $400 toward the angel tree,” she said. “He didn’t want a tattoo but still wanted to contribute. We have had many people who just wanted to contribute to the cause even if they didn’t want a tattoo.”

Conrad has used the funds from the anonymous sponsor to purchase intellectual toys for all of the children on the angel tree. Conrad also said two of her clients have picked two children from the angel tree to personally shop for.

She also received a $1,000 donation from Jack Guffey, owner of Guffey Construction that will go toward gifts for the children on the angel tree.

“This is a very big donation for the children of Jackson County,” she said.

When all of the money is collected from the angel tree, Conrad said she will be hosting a Facebook Live event, where she will be shopping for the angel tree kids so the people that participated can see what their money is going toward.

On Christmas Eve, Conrad and her husband will deliver the angel tree gifts to the Department of Child Services in Seymour.

“My goal is to get people to come in and donate to a great cause whether they are interested in getting a tattoo or not,” she said.
