Russell W. Kuhn, of Seymour, formerly of Columbus, died peacefully at home November 23, 2023, with his wife by his side.

Russ was born to George W. and Dorris Wilburn Kuhn September 14, 1942, in Portsmouth, Ohio. Russ graduated in 1960 from Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio. He joined the US Navy that same year and was stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, serving during the Vietnam War era. When Russ left the Navy, he worked as a tool &die maker, but before that, he had his dream job which was managing the hobby department at Camera &Hobby in Columbus for 12 years. Planes, trains and cars were his passion.

Russ was a radio control airplane builder and flyer for 53 years. He was a charter member of the Bartholomew County Radio Control Flyers, a member of the Seymour Flying Eagles and a longtime member of AMA. Russ was also an ultralight pilot. Russ was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbus where he served as deacon, was on the Calling and Caring Committee and the planning committee for the church columbarium. He was a past member of the Evening Optimist and Columbus Area Rodders.

Russ married Leslie Pettitt August 12, 1978, in Brown County, they recently celebrated their 45th anniversary. Russ is survived by his wife; sons, Russell Kuhn Jr. of Coumbus and Rollin Kuhn of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, Kelsie Jayne (Daniel) of South Carolina and Kyle Kuhn of Madison; a great-grandson, Bennett Jayne; sisters-in-law, Linda Pettitt Smith and Renee Esser; and several cousins.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Marcia Kuhn; and brothers-in-law, Leroy Smith and Jerry Esser.

Russ will be interred at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida. Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced in the future by Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society or Schneck Hospice in Seymour.
