BROWNSTOWN — Voter turnout for Tuesday’s municipal elections in Brownstown, Medora and Seymour was 12.2%, according to data released by Jackson County Clerk Piper Acton office.

Overall, 1,574 people out of a 12,887 registered voters cast ballots during the election process that started with early-in person voting on Oct. 28 at vote centers at the Jackson County Courthouse in Brownstown and the Jackson County Public Library in Seymour.

Of the 365 ballots cast before election day, 41 were from voters visiting the courthouse and 186 were at the library. Another 47 ballots were mailed in and a traveling board accounted for the remaining 91 ballots cast.

In Seymour, 1,197 voters cast ballots during the election which featured incumbent Republican District 1 Councilman Matt Wheeler and challenger Democrat Drew Davis. Wheeler won reelection by picking up 74.6% (156) votes to Davis’ 25.3% (53).

The other race on the ballot featured five candidates for the council’s two at-large seats. Voters opted to send incumbent Republican Drew Storey back to the council for another four-year term and Republican Clint Blish for his first term. The final tally showed Storey with 32.1% (752) of the votes and Blish with 27.4% or 642 votes. The other candidates were Democrat Tanya Pacer with 16.3% (382); independent Tyler Henkle with 13.6% (319); and independent Steve Deweese with 10.5% (248).

In Brownstown, 173 people cast ballots in an election which featured two people running for clerk-treasurer. Republican Sonya Nale won that campaign by garnering 78.7% (133) of the vote to Democrat Terry Jackson’s 21.3% (36).

In Medora, 208 people voted in a race featuring five candidates for the three at-large council seats. Republican Brad McCammon topped that field with 29.8% (62) and was followed Republican incumbent Rhonda Freeman 21.6% (45); and Democrat Robert “Bobby” Thompson 23.5% (49). Republican Jerry Ault finished with 14.4% (30) and independent Ryan Cowles wound up at 10.5% (22).
