Seymour

The Lady Owls kicked off their 2023 girls basketball season on the road on Thursday evening against Southport. Seymour came to play, especially on the defensive side of the ball, harassing the Cardinals offense throughout the game.

The most points Southport scored in a quarter was six in the first period. Seymour would dominate the Cardinals 49-14 to grab their first win of the season.

The Owls defense forced Southport to shoot 5 for 35 from the field. Statistics were not available at print time for the Owls.

Kenzie Gagner led the way for Seymour with 20 points. Journee Brown followed with 11, while Kendall Sterling ended up with 9. Sophie Skidmore recorded 4, Emmy Followell scored 2. Jaidyn Nichols had 2, Claire Marshall ended with 1.

Nola Linson led the Cardinals in scoring with 8 points.

The Seymour JV team would fall to Southport 32-20 in their contest.

Seymour is back on the road on Saturday, traveling to Salem to face off with the Lions at 7:00 p.m. The Owls then travel to Silver Creek next Friday to face the Dragons at 7:30 p.m.
