Funding approved to get new scoreboard installed at Crothersville park

CROTHERSVILLE — Cerrowire donated a little more than $9,000 to the Crothersville Youth League to install a scoreboard on a field at Countryside Park.

The scoreboard arrived in town in February, and the league began seeking prices to have it installed. An initial quote came in at a little more than $18,000.

Since then, another one came in at $10,500, but the company, B&C Electric, would donate $2,500 worth of labor, making the total $8,000. The town’s engineering firm, FPBH Inc., also agreed to donate engineering work for the installation.

The Crothersville Parks Board agreed to contribute $4,000 to get the scoreboard installed.

During the Sept. 5 Crothersville Town Council meeting, Councilman Jamy Greathouse said the league was requesting the remaining $4,000 from the town since the scoreboard would be on town-owned property.

After some discussion, the matter was tabled to look into funding options.

Then at the Oct. 3 meeting, the council voted 4-0 to use $4,000 from the town’s private donation fund for its portion of the installation cost. Councilwoman Jerilyn Masters was absent.

The money in that fund came from donations from Aisin Chemical LLC, and Greathouse said company official Tim Carter told him they wanted the money to go toward kids, community and safety.

As soon as B&C receives a $6,000 deposit, the scoreboard will be installed within 30 days. It is 10 feet wide and 8 feet tall and includes a sign recognizing Cerrowire. Greathouse said banners recognizing donations made by B&C and Aisin Chemical will be placed near the scoreboard, too.

Greathouse said he’s glad the scoreboard is finally going up because he had been asked by Cerrowire officials about the status of the project.

“B&C, who has been a great supporter of this community with the work they do with the youth league, the parks board and different things that we’ve done, donating $2,500 in labor with this latest quote brought it down to where it was somewhat usable for us,” he said. “That’s the reason we’re now at the point where we’re asking for those additional funds so we can go ahead and get it done.”
