The Jackson County History Center’s annual Pioneer Dinner is set for Oct. 26 in the livery barn at the center, 105 N. Sugar St., Brownstown.

It will feature dinner catered by Pewter Hall Event Center & Catering, musical entertainment by Brad Treadway, a raffle and inductions into the Jackson County Pioneer Society.

Tickets are $30 for an individual and $50 for a couple. They may be purchased in advance by calling 812-358-2118. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m.

History center volunteer Margo Brewer said at least five families will be inducted, and it’s not too late for others to fill out their application. The deadline is Oct. 19.

The society recognizes any person showing direct descent from someone living in Jackson County in one of four time periods. They are before 1820 (First Families), 1820 to 1850 (Founders), 1851 to 1880 (Settlers) and 1881 to 1910 (Builders).

Application forms are available at the genealogy library at the center. Volunteers are available to help people complete their applications. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

People will need to provide copies of sources of proof, including census records, vital records (births, deaths and marriages), land records, school records, church records, will or probate records, obituaries, military records, cemetery records, tombstone pictures, burial records, court records or naturalization records. Do not submit original documents.

The application and documents may be dropped off at the history center or mailed to 105 N. Sugar St., Brownstown, IN 47220.
