Trinity Art Club paints downtown windows

Driving through or walking around downtown Seymour, look at businesses’ windows.

If you see painted artwork on them, take time to admire the talents of students from the Trinity Lutheran High School Art Club.

Carrie Adler, adviser of the club and the Seymour school’s art teacher, said it has reached the point where businesses contact her before she has the chance to post on social media that she’s looking for places for students to paint windows for a donation to the club.

“All I did was I put it on Instagram and Facebook, and it got spread all over,” she said. “There were a couple businesses that reached out to us ahead of time, which was great. They were looking for our announcement. They were a little early on it, but it worked out well.”

On Sept. 22, groups of students painted the windows at The Magic of Books Bookstore, Oasis Unleashed Pet Grooming and Lost and Found Toys, and Adler and her son, Carter, a freshman at Trinity, painted the windows at Edward Jones – Andrea Hall.

Two days later, other groups of students painted fall scenes on the windows at Rails Craft Brew & Eatery, Schwätzer’s German Restaurant, Dragonfly Boutique, Seedlings + Co. and Townhouse Cafe.

“They make a donation, whatever they want,” Adler said. “It costs us about $250 to $300 to just get all of the supplies and get ready to do it all. Then we hope to make that back and have this be our main fundraiser every year.”

She said club members appreciate the opportunity to brighten up the community and share their talents.

“I think it’s awesome,” she said. “It’s cool because they trust us enough to do this, trust us enough to have the kids come out and be representatives of our community at Trinity, too. It’s another canvas, another playing field for them to share their talents with the community. It’s nice to get a little public recognition every once in awhile outside of our walls.”

Adler said each group came up with its own plan for what to paint.

“It’s really fun to see them come together,” she said.

Lilli Fowler, Kate Fowler and Enola Van der Car worked together on painting a window at the bookstore.

They painted a pumpkin and a spider in a web on a book, and below that was the message “Reading is a web of adventure.”

Kate, a sophomore, said this is her first year in Art Club, and she chose to participate in the window painting because she wanted to be more involved at school.

Van der Car, a freshman, also is in her first year in the club and said it will be nice for people driving or walking downtown on a daily basis and attending the upcoming Seymour Oktoberfest to see the students’ artwork.

“I think it’s pretty cool,” she said. “We’re representing the Art Club. It’s a fun way to start Art Club.”
