Kathryn Sierp, age 97, wife of the late Clifford Sierp, passed away on Monday morning, August 21, 2023, at The Lutheran Community Home in Seymour.

Kathryn was born on August 11, 1926, in Brownstown, Jackson County, IN. She was the daughter of William and Addie (Pollert) Terkhorn. On July 3, 1948, she married the love of her life, Clifford Sierp, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-Wegan. He preceded her in death in July 2021.

Kathryn was a homemaker for many years after retiring from Indiana American Water Company in 1987. She did volunteer work at the church and at The Lutheran Community Home and Braille and was active for many years in Immanuel Lutheran Church Altar Guild’ She was also a member of The American Legion Auxiliary.

Kathryn had a beautiful smile. She was a kind and angelic person who always went the extra mile to make someone smile, provide words of encouragement, or prepare a meal when someone was ill. She was known for her famous home-made zucchini bars (which were extremely popular with the Pastors), casseroles, sloppy joes, and Jello desserts. She was like a 2nd mom to many members of her extended family and treasured her time with her great and grandchildren. A strong believer in God, Kathryn was loved by many who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Denise “Dino” Sierp, her son, Gregory Sierp, grandchildren, Alexandra (Sierp) Dastrup and Tyler Sierp, two great granddaughters, Ruby Dale and Dot Juniper, one sister, Edith (Herman) Hackman, and two daughter-in-law’s, Barbara Sierp and Elaine “Chickie” Sierp.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Terry Sierp, one brother, Herbert Terkhorn, one sister, Eleanor Denny, two brother-in-law’s, Ray Denny and Herman Hackman, one sister-in-law, Marie Delphine Terkhorn, and four half brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sierp will be held on Friday morning, August 25 at 11AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 605 S. Walnut St, Seymour, IN 47274. A visitation will be held at Voss and Sons Funeral Service in Seymour on Thursday, August 24, from 6-8PM and again on Friday morning at the church from 10AM until the time of the funeral. Burial will immediately follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bethania Kids, or the American Diabetes Association.
