Whitcomb to make political announcement Thursday in Seymour

Seymour Democrat Trish Whitcomb will kick off her campaign for Indiana House District 69 on Thursday evening during a rally in Seymour.

Whitcomb, the daughter of former Indiana Gov. Edgar Whitcomb (1969-1973), will make her official campaign announcement at 5:30 p.m. at the plaza in front of the John Mellencamp mural at 102 W. Second St., Seymour.

According to a news release, Whitcomb has been involved in dozens of campaigns around the state, including serving as the campaign manager in Democrats’ last successful statewide campaign when Glenda Ritz won the race for state school superintendent in 2012.

Whitcomb graduated from Seymour High School and earned a degree in education from Butler University. She is the former executive director of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and is the former president of the Indiana Federation of Democratic Women.

Whitcomb is currently uncontested in the 2024 Democrat primary election and is expected to face incumbent Republican Rep. Jim Lucas of Seymour in the general election.

District 69 includes the central and eastern half of Jackson County and parts of Bartholomew, Jennings, Scott and Washington counties.
