The Seymour boys tennis team hosted Bloomington North on Tuesday.

The Owls would drop their match against the Cougars, losing all five matches.

First-year coach Jacob Hunt spoke on the matchup with the Cougars beforehand.

“We’re really hopeful about playing Bloomington North,” Hunt said. “They have a lot of players and we’re excited about playing. I’m really excited to see good tennis from Seymour.”

Owls No. 1 Joe Schmidt dropped his match with Connor O’Guinn 1-6, 1-6.

No. 2 Parker Thompson lost his contest with Brady Murphy, losing 6-7, (2-7), 4-6.

The third singles match also went to Bloomington North, as Ben Konisky downed Carter Stein 1-6, 2-6.

“I’m very proud of our second singles player in Parker,” he said.

“He put up a good fight against his opponent. In the singles matches, it’s just a matter of getting that experience on and off the court.”

The doubles matchups also went in favor of the Cougars.

The number one match between Shun Takeuchi and Joel Stevens against Seth Force and Casey McIntyre went to the Cougars, 1-6, 1-6.

The second doubles match between Drew Handloser and Xavier DuBois against Esteban Craspo and Paul Macy went to the Cougars, 2-6, 1-6.

“We suffered tough losses from our doubles teams. Each game we were out there competing in some excellent rallies and points,” Hunt added. “It’s just a matter of finishing games and finishing points when the pressure is on.”

“It was a tough loss, but credit to them as they are a tough team,” he said. “They showed up to play, and we need to take the lessons we learned from this and make us a stronger team.”

Seymour will now play Providence on Thursday.

“I feel good about this matchup,” Hunt said. “Most of our issues tonight are fixable, and will come with getting used to competing. Learning to compete in tennis takes some time.”
