A fish dinner fundraiser is set for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hamacher Hall, 211 E. Howard St., Crothersville.

The dinner will include a fish sandwich, slaw, chips, cookies and a drink and cost $8. A fish sandwich may be purchased for $6.

Funds raised will be used for monthly expenses and building maintenance and repairs.

Hamacher Hall, Crothersville’s historical and cultural arts center, existed as the Presbyterian church in town. Among those founding members were John Hamacher, who surveyed and founded the town which is now Crothersville, and Preston Rider.

The petition requesting approval to organize a Presbyterian church in Crothersville was forwarded to the New Albany Presbytery in 1885. Guidance was provided from Presbyterian elders from Brownstown and Seymour.

In 2001, the Greater Crothersville Heritage Foundation purchased the building and its annex. It has been renamed Hamacher Hall in honor of John Hamacher.

The foundation later sold the two buildings to the Crothersville Historical and Cultural Arts Association, and the facility has continued to host a number of public activities. The group’s mission is to encourage interest in the history of Crothersville and promote visual and performing arts.
