Graduation congratulations

Thumbs up to the 508 students who recently graduated from one of the six high schools in Jackson County. For the record, Brownstown Central High School’s Class of 2023 had 94 grads; Crothersville High School had 23; Medora High School had 13; Sandy Creek Christian Academy had nine; Seymour will have 342 on Sunday; and Trinity Lutheran High School had 27.

Sectional aces

Thumbs up to the Brownstown Central High School baseball team for capturing the third sectional championship in the program’s history Monday with a 4-2 win over Austin in the Class 2A Austin Sectional. Members of the Braves’ squad are Ethan Fultz, Carson Darlage, Jaxson Johnson, Lane Pendleton, Andrew Roberts, Dalton Reedy, Lane Steward, Preston Garrison, Easton Branaman, Chick Tiemeyer, Coleson Ellison, Evan Schneider, Ethan Garland, Caydin Bishop, Brody Short, Pierson Wheeler, Trent Lowery and Grayson Cassidy. The 23-8 Braves will meet Providence in the regional Saturday.

Awesome potluck

Thumbs up to Jonesville Christian Church for providing an awesome potluck meal on Sunday and Harold and Dottie Snider for providing assistance with the meal, including a great pea salad. The church generally holds a potluck meal on the fourth Sunday of each month.

John Tinkey, Columbus

Off to state

Thumbs up to Seymour High School’s 4×400 relay team of Devon Jackson, Michael Brooks, Josh Rennekamp and Jaylan Johnson. The team qualified for the state meet after placing third on May 25 during the Bloomington North Regional. The boys state finals are today at Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex at Indiana University in Bloomington, and the 4×400 relay will start at 8:30 p.m.

Thumbs up to Brownstown Central High School senior Camryn Thompson, who finished fourth on May 23 at the Bloomington North Regional and will compete in the 300 hurdles at the girls state finals Saturday at Indiana University in Bloomington. The 300 hurdles start at 7:20 p.m. Thompson joins Seymour’s Brooke Trinkle, who finished third in the 1600 run at the Bloomington North Regional and will compete at the state meet. That event is slated to start at 6:35 p.m. today.

Headed to the hall

Thumbs up to the recently named members of the Seymour High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The Class of 2023 features Dave Boggs, Bob Bowman, Andy Denny, Arv Koontz and Bud Shippee. They will be inducted prior to the boys varsity basketball game against Jennings County on Dec. 16.
