Seymour grad honored at University of Alabama

Kaylee Waskom of Seymour recently was inducted into the Carl A. Elliott Society and the Order of Omega at the University of Alabama.

Waskom was one of 79 students selected for the 2023-24 class for the society, a community service-based, university-wide honorary dedicated to social justice. Membership into the society is one of the highest honors at the university, according to a news release.

The society is named in honor of the late Carl Atwood Elliott. He was a former university student government president who later became an Alabama congressman in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The society recognizes students who have made significant leadership contributions in areas of social and cultural progress and who portray a spirit of ideals held by Elliott.

Waskom also was the only freshman to be inducted into this year’s member class ceremony for the Order of Omega, held April 15 at Indian Hills Country Club in Tuscaloosa.

Order of Omega is an honor society for members of Greek organizations, recognizing juniors and seniors who have exemplified high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership and involvement within their respective fraternity or sorority.

Members are selected from the top 3% of students from each institution and have a minimum of 72 credit hours.
