Local residents arrested on armed robbery charges

Two Seymour residents facing armed robbery and theft charges were arrested Saturday in Scottsburg.

Arrest warrants for the two, 19-year-old Hunter Coomer and his girlfriend, 18-year-old Max Caudill, were issued to police investigating an incident on Feb. 22 involving a person holding another at gunpoint in the 600 block of South Vine Street in Seymour, according to a news release from Lt. C.J. Foster with the Seymour Police Department. The person’s handgun also was taken during the incident.

The warrants charge both Coomer and Caudill with armed robbery and theft, while Coomer also faces charges of intimidation and pointing a firearm.

The incident that led to the arrest of the pair began Feb. 22 when Seymour officers responded to a report of armed robbery on South Vine Street.

Foster said when officers arrived on the scene, the victim told officers Coomer had held them at gunpoint and took their handgun.

Police also were told Caudill was with Coomer at the time of the incident.

Investigators conducted some follow-up investigation and learned the robbery may have been drug-related, Foster said.

Attempts to then locate Coomer and Caudill were unsuccessful, leading to the warrants being sought and issued, Foster said.

On Saturday, the two were located and arrested at a convenience store in Scottsburg by officers with the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, Foster said.

The vehicle the two were in at the time was towed to a secure location. On Monday, investigators obtained a Jackson Superior Court I search warrant to search the vehicle for the weapon Coomer used during the robbery and the weapon reportedly taken from the victim.

During the search, neither weapon was located. Investigators, however, located a handgun that had been reported stolen in Jackson County and marijuana.

Coomer and Caudill are awaiting extradition back to Jackson County, and additional charges are possible against them, Foster said.
