IUPUC to host math contest

Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus will be one of nine statewide hosts for the 2023 Indiana State Math Contest on April 22 at the Columbus Learning Center, 4555 Central Ave.

The contest is sponsored by the Indiana Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

New this year, parents/legal guardians as well as teachers may register their public or private school elementary, middle or high school students through March 31. The $7 registration fee must be paid online to complete registration. No onsite, day-of or late registrations will be permitted. ICTM reserves the right to verify school and course enrollment. Students may compete in one of five exam categories: Pre-Algebra, Algebra First Course/Integrated Math I, Geometry/Integrated Math II, Algebra Second Course/Integrated Math III or Comprehensive.

Awards will be presented to top scorers for each category both at the local and state level.

Leigh Britt, a lecturer in mathematics at IUPUC and a board member of ICTM, is the coordinator of the statewide event and local site coordinator.

IUPUC Professor Rodney Lynch is again the exam writer for the comprehensive exam this year, having written it in 2022 and 2019. Lynch also wrote the geometry exam in 2017 and 2018.
