Christmas classics part of upcoming show in Brown County

The Jingle Bell Rockin’ Christmas Band plans to present a tribute to Bobby Helms and his Christmas classic “Jingle Bell Rock” with special guest The Isaac Family Band during a holiday concert at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 27 at Brown County Playhouse, 70 S. Van Buren St., Nashville.

When Helms, a country music singer, was first offered the chance to sing a new festive song called “Jingle Bell Rock,” he was initially skeptical about the idea of mixing rock and roll and Christmas. But he was quickly won over, and his single, issued by Decca Records in October 1957, soon became a holiday classic.

“‘Jingle Bell Rock’ has made itself a part of Christmas,” Helms said. “It lifts people up.”

Today, you can find it on playlists alongside staples like “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song” and many other iconic favorites.

This band is the only band featuring Helms’ son and grandson. The band also will perform other Christmas classics.

Doors open at 1:30 p.m. The cost is $15 per person if tickets are purchased online before Nov. 27 or $20 per person on the day of the show.
