After both securing big conference road wins Friday night, the Seymour and Brownstown Central football teams were able to sit back Sunday evening and watch as the IHSAA unveiled the football sectional bracket.

In the Class 2A Sectional 39, Brownstown is grouped with seven other teams: Brown County, Christel House, Clarksville, Eastern (Pekin), Indianapolis Scecina, Switzerland County and Triton Central.

The top of the bracket features Triton Central against Christel House. The Tigers are 6-2 this season, while the Eagles are 3-5.

The winner of that game will advance to the sectional semifinal against the winner of Game 2, which is between Brownstown and Brown County.

The Braves are 5-3 this season and fresh off a win at Silver Creek, 41-21, to snap a two-game skid. The Eagles of Brown County are currently winless this season at 0-8.

Brownstown and Brown County have shared one similar opponent this fall, and that’s Indian Creek. The Braves will be at the Eagles on Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.

The bottom of the bracket starts with Game 3 between Switzerland County and Indianapolis Scecina. The Crusaders are 7-1 this season and already have a win over a team in this sectional, which was Triton Central back on Sept. 30. Scecina is ranked No. 5 in the AP media poll for Class 2A, and Triton Central is ranked No. 7.

The Pacers are 4-4 so far this season. The winner of Switzerland and Scecina will advance to the semifinal to take on the winner of Game 4 between Clarksville and Eastern (Pekin). The Generals are 3-5 this season, while the Musketeers are 1-7. One of those losses for Pekin came to Brownstown back on Sept. 2 when the Braves won 48-28.

The semifinals for this sectional will be Oct. 28 with the championship game taking place one week later on Nov. 4.

For the Class 5A Sectional 15, Seymour shares the field with the likes of both Bloomington schools and Columbus East.

The Owls are fresh off a big win at New Albany, 49-7, on Friday night to clinch a share of the Hoosier Hills Conference title for the first time since 2001.

Seymour is matched up against Bloomington North in the first round of the sectional, and that game will be on the Cougars’ home field on Oct. 28.

Bloomington North is currently 4-4 this season, while Seymour is 6-2 and winners of five straight. The Owls and Cougars will not meet in the regular season, but they’ve seen the other two teams in the sectional.

Also on Oct. 28, Bloomington South will be at Columbus East. The Panthers are 6-1 this season and already have a win over North 45-7 earlier this year. The Olympians are 4-4 this season, and they lost to North on Sept. 30 24-7.

East also defeated Seymour on Sept. 2 34-12 and will be playing for a share of the conference title this Friday at Bedford North Lawrence. The winner of the game between the Olympians and Stars will share the title with the Owls.

The winners of Seymour/North and South/East will play for the sectional title on Nov. 4.

The Owls will get their first look at Bloomington South this Friday to close out the regular season. That game will be at Bulleit Stadium at 7 p.m. The Panthers are currently ranked No. 4 in the AP media poll for Class 5A.

Meanwhile for Brownstown, they will look to finish the regular season on a positive note against Scottsburg at Blevins Memorial Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m.
