Genesis Munoz had an outstanding softball career at Trinity Lutheran High School, especially her senior year.

She graduated from the Seymour school in 2021. She batted .615 her senior year and had 46 RBI with nine home runs and had a defensive fielding percentage of 1.000 as the Cougars’ regular catcher.

She was named Trinity’s first softball all-star last Thursday as she received her all-star jersey

framed prior to the scheduled game against Brown County.

“This is crazy,” she said. “It means everything to me. I know I put in a lot of hours to get it, and I’m just really happy I did get it. It feels really good.”

This spring, she played softball at Franklin College.

“This year went really well,” Munoz said. “I started off playing first, which was kind of a new thing. Throughout the year, I would give our starting catcher relief in second games sometimes. I was DP (designated player) cleanup every game after that. I started off kind of in a slump, but once I started hitting really well, I got more consistent.”

She made the all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference first team. Franklin was 21-19 overall and 10-6 in the conference.

Munoz hit .376 in 39 games and had 30 RBI and four home runs. She hit a grand slam to help the Grizzlies beat Manchester University on April 23.

She said playing travel ball for the past several years helped prepare her for the college game.

“In travel ball, I saw a lot of great pitching. It was more consistency with games we played, 10 games in a week type thing,” she said. “That was the biggest adjustment, not necessarily the teams that we played, but more the amount of games that we played.”

Munoz is majoring in bio-science at Franklin with a minor in chemistry.

She had a tryout with the Puerto Rico national softball team in late July 2021.

“I’ve been playing softball for as long as I can remember,” she said. “I absolutely love it.”
