The Brownstown Central track and field teams won a 3-way meet at Blevins Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

Paige McKain won the 800, 1600 and 3200 runs to lead the Braves, who finished with 80.5 points to 50 for Borden and 34.5 for Scottsburg.

The boys’ meet came down to the wire and the hosts edged Borden 59-58. Scottsburg was third with 50 points.

McKain won the 800 in 2:43, the 1600 in 5:59 and the 3200 in 13:13.

Addie Shelton won the shot put at 30 feet, 3 inches, and she won the discus with a throw of 94-2.

Camryn Thompson won the 100 hurdles in 17.3, Jazz Yeadon won the long jump at 14-9, and the Braves won the 400 relay in 54.2.

The boys’ meet was tied with the pole vault and 1600 relay remaining.

The Braves placed second in the relay and Landon Wilkins placed fourth in the pole vault to give the Braves the win by one point.

Dustyn Kocsis won the shot put at 49-0and the discus at 148-5, and Chance Ratliff won the 1600 in 5:00 and the 3200 in 10:45.

Brownstown’s only other first came in the 400 relay with a time of 48.3.

Softball

Seymour walks it off against New Albany

The Seymour softball team came away with a big 1-0 victory over Hoosier Hills Conference foe New Albany on Tuesday at home.

The game was tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh until Kendal Allman drew a walk, Abby Followell hit a double and Sydney Stewart singled to bring in Allman and win the game for the Owls.

Stewart, Followell, Kynadee Warner and Kendrick Sterling all had hits for Seymour on the day. Sterling pitched all seven innings for the Owls, only giving up five hits and striking out seven.

Seymour will be back in action at Columbus East on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Tennis

Seymour sweeps Shelbyville

The Seymour tennis team went on the road Thursday night and swept Shelbyville 5-0.

Brooke Schafstall won 6-1, 6-1 at one singles, Madalyn Baurle won 6-3, 6-1 at two singles and Elise Hartung won 6-2, 6-0 at three singles.

At one doubles, Ashley Clemente and Caroline Thompson won 6-0, 6-2, and at two doubles, Addison Hunsley and Jessica Hougland won 6-4, 6-1.

The Owls are off to a 3-0 start this season and will host Brownstown on Thursday at 5:15 p.m.

Baseball

Tigers lose tight game

The Crothersville baseball suffered a tough 10-8 loss on the road Tuesday night at Christian Academy.

Trailing by three in the top of the seventh, the Tigers scored one run and tried to mount a comeback but fell just short.

Lucas Hilton, Ian Tatlock and Dirk Crater each got one hit for the Tigers while Crater had one RBI, Tatlock had two and Blake Robinson had two.

Hilton and Matthew Clouse both pitched during the game as well.

This marks three-straight games where Crothersville has scored seven or more runs. They will be back at home on Saturday against Shawe Memorial at 11 a.m.

Trinity falls at Charlestown

The Trinity baseball team played at Charlestown on Tuesday night and suffered a 5-1 loss. Trinity got on the board first in the top of the second before Charlestown tied it heading into the third.

Nathan Voelker, Sage Broughton, Peyton Pollert, Luke Coomler and Cole Brewer all had hits for the Cougars, and Pollert had the lone RBI that drove in Kowan Gross.

Gross pitched the first 3.1 innings, Pollert pitched the next two and Voelker pitched the final two-thirds.

The Cougars will host Brownstown for a double-header on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m.

Owls lose in extras

The Seymour baseball team suffered a tough loss in 10 innings to Madison on Tuesday night, falling to the Cubs 2-1.

Zander Vonch walked it off for Madison in the bottom of the 10th.

The Owls fall to 7-4 on the season and will host Jennings County at home on Friday at 6 p.m.

Track and field

Seymour competes at Madison

The Seymour track and field team went on the road to Madison on Tuesday night, but results were not available at press time.

The Owls’ results will be featured in Thursday’s Tribune.
