BROWNSTOWN — Two girls and a boy have earned the title of Brownstown Central Community School Corp. Student of the Month.
Recognized during Tuesday night’s board of school trustees meeting at the administration office were fifth-grader Brielle Killey, seventh-grader Sawyer Brown and junior Madison Edwards. Each received a certificate for the honor.
Killey, a student in Julie Voss’ class, was selected Little Brave of the Month for art by art teacher Mendy Stahl.
“Brielle Killey is an amazing young lady,” Brownstown Elementary School Principal Chrystal Street said in reading Stahl’s nomination letter.
“She is an outstanding art student and is a pleasure to have in class,” Stahl wrote. “She leads with quiet confidence in my room. She is willing to help other students and is always patient and understanding. Brielle is creative and is definitely an artist. She always works extremely hard on her artwork. I look forward to seeing her finished projects every week. She is definitely deserving of the honor of BES art Little Brave of the Month.”
Brown was chosen by the seventh grade teachers.
“He is very respectful to his teachers and classmates,” Brownstown Central Middle School Principal Doug McClure said while reading the teachers’ nomination letter. “Sawyer turns in his homework on time. He strives to do his best, and it shows in his work ethic.”
Brown helps his classmates and teachers in the school library as a research assistant in technology services and also is a member of the football team.
“Sawyer displays qualities of respect, responsibility and resourcefulness here at BCMS, and the seventh grade teachers congratulate him for his efforts as do I,” McClure said.
The principal also said in the 2020-21 school year, Brown was recognized as one of the school’s Courtesy Award winners for a trimester and was the respect winner for the sixth grade class.
Edwards was named Brownstown Central High School’s band Student of the Month by Director of Bands Richard Branaman.
“Madison is intelligent, creative, hardworking, pleasant, humble and reliable,” Principal Joe Sheffer said in sharing Branaman’s comments. “She is an outstanding clarinetist who strives to do everything to perfection. This has made her a fantastic drum major.”
Branaman said Edwards has perfect attendance for all marching, pep and concert band performances and participated in the Indiana Bandmasters Association all-district honor band, Ball State honor band and Indiana State School Music Association solo and ensemble contest.
At school, she also is involved in clubs and Academic Super Bowl teams and is a manager for sports teams.
“Madison reminds me of Bigweld’s motto in the animated movie ‘Robots:’ See a need, fill a need,” Branaman wrote.
