The Brownstown boys golf team hosted Mitchell at Hickory Hills Golf Course on Monday night in what was one of the few events that survived the weather in Southern Indiana.

Brownstown had a nice day out on the course as well, shooting an 181 as a team to defeat Mitchell, who scored 253.

Caiden Gwin was a medalist for the Braves, shooting the best score from either team on the day with a 42. In Gwin’s first round of action at the Seymour Invitational at Shadowood, he had rounds of 47 and 52, so this was his best outing in this young season.

Chandler Stahl and Matthew Reedy both shot a 46 for the Braves, and Connor Gwin, Smith Hackman and Caden Waskom each had rounds of 47 on Monday.

Elix Preston shot a 49, Jaren Cunningham a 50, Colton Hallow a 55 and Carson Darlage a 56 to round out the scoring for Brownstown.

This was Brownstown’s second time in competing this season since the Seymour Invite on April 2. The Braves had a match canceled against Columbus North due to rain on April 5, but the rain couldn’t keep them off the links on Monday.

Brownstown will next compete on Saturday in the Edgewood Invitational at Cascades Golf Course starting at 9 a.m.

Benter receives IBCA top 100 invite

Brownstown sophomore Jack Benter recently got invited to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association top 100 workout.

Benter is fresh off a season in which he averaged 26.9 points per game, which is a school record, and he also led his team in rebounds with 159 and assists with 100.

His 700 points scored over this season was a school record for most points in a single season. He tied the school record for most free throws in a game with 17 and broke the school record for most 3-pointers in a game with 11.

He was a Mid-Southern all-conference selection and was selected as an IBCA Supreme 15 for underclassmen.

The Braves went 22-4 this season with a sectional championship and share of the MSC title. For Benter’s efforts, he was also named The Tribune’s Player of the Year for boys basketball.

This IBCA top 100 workout will take place in June. Trinity’s Bailey Tabeling was also invited to the IBCA top 100 for girls basketball, which was announced last week.
