An Indianapolis woman was killed after she was struck while standing outside her disabled vehicle late Sunday evening on Interstate 65 near Seymour, police report.

At around 11 p.m., troopers from the Indiana State Police Versailles Post began investigating the crash that led to the death of Erika J. Jimenez, 35, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles with the Indiana State Police Post.

Wheeles, the Versailles Post’s public information officer, said an investigation led by the district’s crash reconstruction team found Jimenez had been driving south near the 51 mile marker when the 2003 Toyota passenger car she was driving became disabled and stopped in the right driving lane.

Troopers were able to determine Jimenez exited her vehicle and was standing near it when it was struck by a southbound 2018 Dodge box truck driven by Lenny Gorelik, 61, of Kennesaw, Georgia.

Jimenez also was struck during the collision and sustained fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene by an official with the Jackson County Coroner’s Office. Gorelik was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Southbound traffic on the interstate was affected for nearly five hours for crash investigation and cleanup.

Troopers were assisted by officers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services and Redding Township Volunteer Fire Department.
