The Trinity Lutheran cheerleading squad hosted its postseason awards banquet Tuesday night following a winter full of being the spirit of Bollinger Athletic Complex.

Head coach Andrea Foster handed out awards to the Cougars, and she started with the academic award.

Both Kaelyn Miller and Mallory Shoemaker earned the academic award. The duo had the highest grade point average on the team. Both Miller and Shoemaker have a 4.0 GPA.

Next up was the Cougar Award, which was given to Taylor Marshall.

“This athlete always kept a smile on her face,” Foster said. “She is kind and considerate to all athletes on the team. She encourages the girls on the team to try one more time. She often uses the phrase ‘We’ve got this. Let’s try again.’”

The most improved award went to Siddha Hall, who had never cheered before this season.

“She did not know motions, jump techniques or how to stunt,” Foster said. “She took it upon herself to join a competitive team and put in the extra work to learn cheerleading. This girl now has great jumps, dancing skills and stunting skills all around.”

The final award handed out was the MVP award. Foster gave that to Paige McCammon, who was a leader for the Cougars this year.

“This athlete puts in extra time to make continuous improvements to her skills,” Foster said. “Her advanced tumbling and stunting skills shine at games. She has made a great role model for other athletes to look up to. We will miss her on the cheerleading team.”

McCammon plans to try out for the cheerleading team at Indiana University in Bloomington this August.

“We wish her the best of luck,” Foster said.

McCammon, Miller, Shoemaker and Ally Russell all received senior awards because those four cheered at Trinity Lutheran High School for all four years.
