An educational opportunity is coming up next month for anyone with diabetes and/or family members caring for those with the disease.

Adults with Type 2 diabetes (or who are at risk) also are invited to attend.

Molly Marshall, health and human sciences educator for Purdue Extension Jackson County, said the Dining with Diabetes program is a positive and proactive approach in reducing the effects of diabetes.

“Participants will learn how to make healthy choices around nutrition and physical activity for managing Type 2 diabetes,” she said.

Purdue Extension Area 2 health and human sciences educators and registered dietitians will present the classes.

The virtual workshop will be conducted from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. every week for four consecutive Wednesdays beginning Feb. 2 via Zoom.

The cost to attend is $40, and the registration deadline is 1 p.m. Tuesday. Class materials will be mailed to participants once they have have registered.

The program will enable participants to equip themselves with knowledge and skills to improve their health or care for someone with diabetes. Participants will be shown how to prepare healthy versions of familiar foods that are quick and easy to prepare, inexpensive and tasty.
