The Crothersville girls basketball went on the road on Thursday night and took on South Central in a close back-and-forth battle.

The Tigers led 21-11 after the first quarter, but South Central climbed back into the game a bit by winning the second quarter 13-8.

The gap tightened after three quarters, but the Tigers remained up one point, 38-37.

However, a three-point quarter from Crothersville in the fourth quarter led to the eventual 51-41 defeat.

The game turned on a dime in the fourth quarter when Crothersville senior Kennadi Lakins went up for a layup and got fouled and hit the ground hard.

Lakins, who was the Tigers leading scorer with 25 points, writhed in pain on the ground and could not return for the game.

South Central took advantage of Lakins missing time down the stretch and were able to capitalize to get a victory.

Zoe Spangler contributed 14 points for the Tigers, and Ella Plasse added two.

Miller Spencer led South Central with 26 points, Kendall Kiper had 10, Gracey McCrary had 4, Lexie Liebert had 3, Gerogia Faith had 3, Autumn Knear had 3, and Gabby Ashby had 2 to give the Rebels their first win of the season.

With the loss, Crothersville falls to 2-7 on the season.

Since the Tigers were already short on players on Thursday night and Lakins’ status unknown for the future, they don’t intend to compete on Saturday morning at Rock Creek.

Instead, the Tigers will get a long break before returning to action on Dec. 28 when they host Hauser for a 6 p.m. tip.
